Slight Edge Principle 5 Have Faith and A Burning Desire
I’ve often struggled with the term, “Burning Desire”.
I guess one could say it’s primarily because of “religion”.
I can remember being told by the religious leaders that burning desires can
Have you ever heard that?
Well, growing up in the church I was told that our “desire” should be for GOD.
I can understand that…but…
There is a scripture that I memorized as a youngster that I totally misunderstood.
Psalm 37:4 Take delight in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.
I always interpreted that to mean the HE (God) was going to
give me whatever I desired in my heart.
Wow… what a good God we serve. HE’s just going to give
me everything I want in life.
I later learned that it was GOD that would put the desires
into my heart. Desires that I could work for, long for, burn
for… as long as I still put HIM first.
In fact, GOD does want us to have our hearts desires. That’s why
HE put them there. For us to work for and achieve.
Well now, later in my life I know I can have whatever is a burning
desire that’s in my heart…
If I work for it.
I think that’s what Napoleon Hill was saying when he made the
Know what you want.
What you really, really want.
Then develop a plan with the definiteness of purpose to achieve
that desire… Have a “burning desire”.
When that occurs, THEN one will then have that special quality
one needs to be successful in obtaining THAT desire. (or those
As Jeff Olson puts it, “have FAITH and a BURNING DESIRE. Desire
is what gets you up early and keeps you up late. It’s what keeps you
motivated to press forward when adversity hits.”
These qualities are what leads us to succeed in life.
Success in achieving what we desire.
I’m leaving this with you at this point.
You must decide if you want “it” bad enough to do
whatever it takes.
Yes, you must work long hours (at first).
Yes, you must do things that need to be done
to get what you want.
Yes, you must work with others sleep.
Yes, you must Know, that you Know, that you
Know that you want what you’re after.
Otherwise, if you don’t really have that burning desire when you do
get what you want…
You won’t enjoy it!
You won’t be fulfilled in achieving it!
So, my point here is:
- KNOW WHAT YOU WANT.
2. DEVELOP A DEFINITE PLAN TO ACHIEVE.
3. WORK THAT PLAN BY SHOWING UP CONSISTENTLY
WITH A GOOD ATTITUDE
4. OVER A LONG PERIOD OF TIME
WITH THAT SOLID DESIRE!
